Breaking the Chains of Misogyny and Racism: A Call to Action
Here is my viewpoint on our current position on two forms of oppression that often intersect.
In America today, misogyny and racism are two intertwined social issues that hinder progress and equality. Apart from hindering marginalized communities’ advancement, deep-rooted forms of discrimination also hinder society’s collective advancement. To achieve a truly progressive and inclusive America, addressing the corrosive effects of these attitudes is imperative.
Misogyny reveals itself in a variety of ways, such as systemic discrimination at work and violence against women. Studies show that gender discrimination leads to significant income disparities, limiting women’s financial independence and economic contribution. When women are underrepresented in leadership roles and denied equal pay for equal work, sectors suffer from a lack of diversity of perspectives. Consequently, the air becomes stale, lacking the fresh scent of growth and advancement.
The intersection between misogyny and racism
Misogyny and racism often intersect, making it harder for women of color to overcome both gender-based and racial discrimination. Consequently, because of double jeopardy, many people cannot contribute and voice their opinions. Unless we address the unique challenges women of color face, we will lose the opportunity to benefit from their insights and experiences.
America stares down the barrel of a loaded political pistol of two choices. The choice between a champion for everyday working people of all persuasions, Vice President Kamala Harris, or the candidate, Donald Trump, representing an angry mob of a political third of our nation mixed in with a frightened population segment unsure of change and fear of losing their hold on a white majority and an enduring sense of white privilege or entitlement.
The problem of racism is another formidable obstacle to the growth of America. Throughout the nation’s social, economic, and political history, racial discrimination has left an indelible mark. Systemic racism marginalizes communities of color and perpetuates poverty and inequity. Meanwhile, GOP Vice-Presidential candidate J.D. Vance remarks on the effect of gun violence in schools that “stronger windows and better locked doors” are needed. For many other Americans like Vance’s opponent Gov. Tim Walz, a nation operating under the rule of law, we should perhaps examine our gun control policies and laws. J. D. Vance perpetuates racist tropes and ideology with his political rally rants falsely claiming Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio are illegal and eating local resident pets and animals.
What’s in a Label? Actions are more harmful than the Label
In our day-to-day lives, we often encounter labels. They are everywhere, from the clothes we wear to the food we eat, systemic characters…
The most impoverished communities lack access to quality education, clean water, healthcare, political representation (Gerrymandering), and employment opportunities because of racism. For example, in many impoverished communities with predominantly Black populations, systemic racism has resulted in a lack of investment in quality education. Schools in these areas often have outdated facilities, inadequate resources, and limited extracurricular opportunities. This creates a cycle of disadvantage, where students from these communities are, less likely to receive a quality education that prepares them for higher education or well-paying jobs. Coupled with the Supreme Court majority, Trump and Sen. Mitch McConnell placed Republican judges, striking down affirmative action, demonstrating the organized and systematic suppression and obstruction to fair, equal, and competitive advancement opportunities.

Additionally, these communities' lack of quality healthcare facilities further exacerbates the issue, as residents may need help accessing essential medical services and treatments. Furthermore, discriminatory hiring practices and unequal opportunities for career advancement contribute to the limited employment options available to individuals in these communities, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and limited economic mobility.
In this sense, the fight against racism goes beyond a moral quest for justice; it is essential to America’s future. Diversity and inclusivity enhance a nation’s innovation, creativity, and social cohesion. Addressing racism is an intelligent move for economic growth and social stability because diverse teams produce better results.
In the United States, misogyny and racism perpetuate inequality and stifle the contributions of countless individuals. To realize our full potential as a nation, we must take action to dismantle these discriminatory structures and foster a culture where everyone’s voice is heard and valued. America will become genuinely progressive as it harnesses its diversity of perspectives and talents. Addressing issues are more than just a moral obligation if we want to build a prosperous and fair future.
Power, Politics, and Prejudice: The Roots of Xenophobia
By acknowledging the damaging effects of misogyny and racism, we can understand how these systemic issues hinder progress and limit opportunities for individuals across the nation. Simply recognizing these problems is not enough.
To achieve true equality, we must actively seek diverse perspectives and talents and ensure that we value them. We must also ensure that we provide them with equal opportunities to contribute to the betterment of our society. By harnessing the power of our nation’s diversity, we can tap into a wealth of ideas and solutions to drive genuine progress.
Addressing these issues is not just a moral obligation; it is essential for building a prosperous and fair future for all. By removing the barriers that hold individuals back based on gender or race, we can unlock their full potential and foster an environment where everyone can thrive. As I listen to voters at Democratic rallies and some independents still undecided over their choice for president, it is apparent freedom of choice and better opportunities for their families that include affordable housing and healthcare. This inclusivity will not only benefit those directly affected by discrimination, but it will also lead to a more innovative and dynamic society as a whole.
As a nation, we have made strides toward progress, but much work still needs to be done. We must actively engage in conversations, challenge our biases, and support policies and initiatives that promote equality. By doing so, we can create a truly progressive America that embraces and celebrates its people's diversity, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The military has a long-standing code that American service members have embraced throughout history: “No person is left behind.” This principle has endured over time and has become an integral part of our nation’s democracy.
Some critics argue that despite rampant examples of misogyny in the arts, politics, and business arenas, women have not been left behind. One significant example of this commitment was the establishment of the Freedmen’s Bureau in 1865. The Freedmen’s Bureau was a government agency created to assist newly freed African Americans transition from slavery to freedom.
The establishment of the Freedmen’s Bureau in 1865 provided education, healthcare, and employment opportunities to ensure that these individuals were not left behind in the nation’s rebuilding. Playing a crucial role in securing the civil rights of African Americans, the bureau actively worked against discriminatory practices and provided legal aid. This initiative showed the nation’s determination to care for all citizens, regardless of race, and laid the foundation for future efforts toward equality and inclusivity.
From post-civil war reconstruction to the present, our nation shows we must care for all citizens and not leave anyone behind, regardless of race, gender, or religion, including political affiliation. The only exception I can think of is the MAGA iteration of the GOP Republican party led by self-appointed dictator in-waiting and convicted felon Donald Trump. I’m sure there are other exceptions, but this one resonates with me now.
One significant example of this commitment was the establishment of the Freedmen’s Bureau in 1865. The Freedmen’s Bureau was a government agency created to assist newly freed African Americans transition from slavery to freedom. To prevent the marginalized individuals from being left behind during the nation’s rebuilding, the Freedmen’s Bureau was established in 1865. Its focus was to provide education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Additionally, the bureau actively worked against discriminatory practices and offered legal aid, playing a crucial role in securing the civil rights of African Americans. This initiative showed the nation’s determination to care for all citizens, regardless of race, and laid the foundation for future efforts toward equality and inclusivity.
Another example is the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a landmark legislation prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. This act was a significant step towards ensuring equal rights for all citizens, regardless of their characteristics or beliefs. It exemplifies our nation's commitment to care for and protect every individual, fostering a society that values and embraces diversity.
Even though misogyny is everywhere in the arts, politics, and business, some critics say women aren’t being left behind. I must acknowledge that, similar to minority groups, women have undeniably made significant advancements in collapsing barriers.
However, it is essential to note that despite misogyny in various fields, women have made significant strides and have yet to be left behind. In the arts, we can see many accomplished female artists who have defied societal barriers and gained recognition for their talent and creativity. From Frida Kahlo to Maya Angelou, these women have left an indelible mark on their respective fields and inspired countless others to pursue their artistic aspirations.

The issue of assault has plagued society for an extended period, casting a dark shadow over our communities. It is a problem that takes on…
Similarly, women have been making significant progress in politics in recent years. We have witnessed the rise of influential leaders such as Angela Merkel, Jacinda Ardern, and Kamala Harris, who have shattered glass ceilings and paved the way for other women to enter politics. Their achievements show women are not being left behind but are actively taking part in shaping the political landscape and making a difference in the lives of their constituents.
Furthermore, women have been steadily breaking barriers and achieving remarkable success in the business arena. Many female CEOs, entrepreneurs, and business leaders contribute significantly to their industries. Companies increasingly recognize the importance of gender diversity and are actively working towards creating more inclusive work environments. This shift provides women with more opportunities and contributes to businesses' overall growth and success.
In a nutshell, misogyny is still out there, but women aren’t exactly being left behind. Women's accomplishments in the arts, politics, and business arenas highlight their resilience and determination and their ability to thrive despite facing adversity. Acknowledging and celebrating these achievements is essential, as they serve as a testament to women's progress and the potential for even more significant advancements in the future. I am voting for Vice President Kamala Harris for president. If you need to see more, please visit her website. She has implemented her plan because she doesn’t have executive authority and would require Senate and House approvals — U.S. Government 101 (high school).
